Crossfire; Two former A List talents to lock horns on August 28th
Though the dark days of the A List are behind us all, I can’t say there’s still a connection there when it comes to watching my former talents as they continue their careers beyond what we started. In a sense, that’s what the A List was there for. We were a group of young guys making sure the spotlight was on us and even though those days are far behind us, the rewards for our efforts are still being seen today.
With the British tournament ongoing, it’s been wonderful to see some of those young men take their first steps towards gaining the prize, but two of those men in particular are still in the title picture. As they prepare to head into their quarter final matches, they’ll have a chance to compete against each other in what could very well be a preview of whats to come in the semi-final if both men advance further.
Since returning by Falcon’s side, I’ve witnessed his ascent first hand, from gaining entry into the tournament by defeating Joe Coffey before moving on to gain a pin fall over Steven Xavier, who substituted for an injured Fergal Devitt. Working alongside Falcon as he pushes through the tournament, I can see a passion and determination reviving in him. He’s had NWA gold twice over now, and now he’s ready to blaze through to the tournaments end.
While I’m not aligned with his opponent on August 28th, it still fills me with pride to see him growing from our days together. In recent months BT Gunn has exploded into one of SWA’s most loved talents and has fans on their feet when he walks through the curtain. Adding to that, he also has an amazing winning streak behind him. Admittedly, that makes me a touch nervous when it comes to being in Falcon’s corner. But at the same time, I’ll be eager to be at ringside and watch these two battle it out.
Both of them have secured their place in the quarter finals. With Gunn’s quarter match with Johnny Moss delayed, he’s looking to gain more momentum as he prepares for the powerful former NWA British Champ, while Falcon’s opponent remains open at present, which is leaving him trying to prepare for any type of opponent that may come his way.
Earlier in the year we saw the two revive their A List spirit in Paisley Town Hall, both of them intent on having more fun than gaining a win. While neither man took the match all too seriously, and really just set out to have a laugh with the audience, this time round I seriously doubt they’ll see the funny side.
SWA’s Talent Relations Manager has told me that Gunn is training harder than ever as he prepares against his quarter final match with Moss and he’s ready to take on Falcon with all the energy he can muster. Knowing this, Falcon and I will be sending a lot of time with Junior working hard to ensure Gunn won’t come close to an easy victory.
This may be a friendly contest between the two on paper, but I can assure you, with both men fueling themselves with the goal of becoming NWA British Champion, neither of them will be in the mood to play nice.
The match takes place on August 28th at Viewpark Community Centre, Uddingston. For full card information and ticket reservation, click here.
