A Cut Above – Shifting Focus.

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

It’s been about 10 months since I last felt the need to voice my thoughts in the form of a blog, and in that time, a lot has happened for everyone’s favourite SWA Superstar.

Firstly, my project to take on a protégé and do my best to elevate him to my level provided mixed results.  Now obviously Joseph Kerr was never going to be on the same level as ol’ Ceej, but he did his best to try and emulate yours truly and – to his credit – didn’t slow me down too much in the ring.  We had our ups and downs, winning a few and losing a few, but with us seemingly unable to build any sustained momentum, the championship committee appear to have decided to ignore us.  Plus, with the SWA Originals now in charge of the SWA Tag Team Titles, I think the chances of us getting a title shot anytime soon look about as promising as a Raging Bull Shooting Star Press.

So with that said, it’s with great regret that I announce that the project known as Innovation Squared has been shelved.  This could be a temporary thing – who knows – but I’m here in SWA for gold, and if there’s no chance of me getting any as a tag team wrestler, then I’m afraid it’s back to the singles route for Mr Cutting Edge.

Which brings me to my main point of this blog.  For whatever reason, I can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to the “main” shows, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why.  Me and Eric Canyon (that’s Mister Canyon to you) go way back – I mean waaaaay back – and me and Peter Murphy never really had any major beef.  Plus I’m, y’know, a SWA Original myself, so you’d think I’d be able to get some love from these guys.  But it seems not, and as such I’m resigned to doing the bulk of my damage on the Source shows.  Which, as I’ve found out lately, isn’t such a bad thing.

A Cut Above – A look at the SWA Tag Team Division

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

CJ HunterWell, It’s been a busy couple of months for SWA to say the least, with the major news being the completely unavoidable and insanely disappointing postponement of the Gathering.

Now from my point of view, it’s been extremely interesting to observe how different people in the SWA locker room have reacted to this news. And basically, from what I’ve seen, the reactions tend to fall into two camps. The first camp is those who knew they were guaranteed a slot on the annual supershow, and who are now bitterly disappointed that they’re going to have to wait until 2011 for their chance to shine on Scotland’s biggest stage. Which I fully understand, don’t get me wrong. The Gathering is an event on a completely different scale to anything else that happens on the Scottish wrestling calendar. In the past, people have used the Gathering to springboard themselves from relative obscurity to superstardom, and the show itself has provided the backdrop for some of the most memorable moments in Scottish wrestling history. So yeah, having that dangled in front of you and then cruelly snatched away is bound to rub a few people the wrong way. Not me though. And why is that, I hear you ask?

Well… because I’m in the second camp.

A “Cutting Edge” Battlezone

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

CJ Hunter It’s been a while since I actually addressed the SWA fans directly, but since this past Saturday’s Battlezone, I’ve had a lot of people asking me a lot of questions about my actions.  So I figured I’d take this opportunity to use the SWA website as a way to explain to people just what’s going on in the mind of CJ Hunter.  God knows you people could use some insight.

Now it’s no secret that I’ve been relegated to the outskirts of SWA for quite some time now.  And for a while, I was fine with slapping around the new crop of “can’t miss prospects” (ha!) coming through the SOURCE system, showing them in a variety of new and exciting ways exactly why they’ll never be half the athlete or entertainer that I am.  But after about a year of that, I started to get a little restless.  I’m CJ Hunter, after all.  I’m a SWA original, and I’m one of the guys who busted their asses to put this company on the map all those years ago.  Also, I’m about a hundred times more talented, innovative and exciting than 90% of the current roster, even if I do say so myself.

Which is why I made a call to my close personal friend Mr Canyon and asked him if I could get a slot in the Battlezone.  I guaranteed results, and – naturally – he accepted my offer.  Mr Canyon is nothing if not a smart businessman, and he clearly saw the benefits to putting a talent such as myself into of one of the biggest events in the SWA calendar.
