Still Standing; But how much further can Renwick be pushed to the edge?
When Scott Renwick defeated Liam Thomson in Uddingston, Eric Canyon declared hat if he wanted the job done, he’d have to do it himself. It seems Canyon is more frustrated than he’s letting on as all of his challengers for the NWA Scottish title have fallen, every attempt to take the belt has failed and no matter what he does, how hard he tries, the champ always prevails. After his third encounter will Liam Thomson on August 28th, Scott Renwick was still standing. Proud, with the NWA Scottish title over his shoulder.
As we all know, Canyon need that title in order to gain full control of SWA. Without it he’s only in charge of half the company and as such, has to fight through talents loyal to SWA’s own PJ Murphy. But after a year of challenges and a year of Renwick beating them one by one, how much further does Canyon have to go?
With the postponement of the Gathering due to industrial action in Glasgow Sport & Culture, which oversees the management of our Gathering home – Kelvin Hall, Canyon may have more time to think and to plan but sooner or later he’s going to have to step into the ring with Canyon in the Gathering 4′s main event and he’s going to have to face Scotty one on one. And each time he see’s Renwick rack up another win, he must be gettig worried. Especially now the stakes are higher.
Initially, Canyon just wanted control. PJ Murphy and the SWA roster were just an obstacle on the way. With the two parties having a 50% split, having the title would give him seniority and he could overrole Murphy, but he’d still have Murphy’s challengers, the possibility of losing control. But it seems Murphy has had enough and laid down a bigger challenge for the Gathering. If Canyon wins, he gets everything. Not just the title, but all of Murphy’s shares in the company and Murphy will walk away. Which means, Canyon doesn’t just get the last say, he gets everything without a challenge, without a fight. He can get rid of any talent he doesn’t like, reshape the company in his image and make life misreble for anyone he wants to keep around.
On the other hand, if Scotty wins then Eric loses his share. Murphy will leave the company to the roster and let the champion lead the way. Allow the civil war to end in a way in which the talent wins, not himself.
The questions Renwick must be asking himself is… whats next? Does Canyon sit down and wait it out until the Gathering goes ahead? Take matters into his own hands and risk everything? Or will he continue to fire challengers at the champion hoping that he can win early, which will make the Gathering match a lot easier for him as he’ll have won before it’s even scheduled? How far will he go to ensure his victory? But the question he should be asking himself is, if Renwick has came this far, shown he’s not giving up the title even when the odds are stacked completely against him, how much further can he go?
Renwick has been one of the strongest champions, if not the strongest champion, this company has ever seen. He’s also quickly became the most popular. But every man has his limit. Will Canyon be able find his and push so hard that Scotty’s spirit will break? Or will he persevere?
As we take an extended walk on the road to the Gathering, we can only wait impatiently to see what tricks Canyon has up his sleeve and what other trials of fire Renwick will have to face as he realises the entire companies fate is in his hands.
