Perhaps an odd choice for Star of the Month considering what went down at Source Wrestling recently and that no one is more hate-able than ‘The Boss’, but hear us out…

Canyon has been rubbing people the wrong way for a very, very long time. Mainly due to his over-inflated ego and his doing whatever it took to get back the Scottish title. That desire led him to making a lot of enemies, gave him a tainted win and has ultimately set him on a self destructive downward spiral after he gave away his legal rights as the company’s owner in pursuit of the belt. But, in a moment of admiration, we have to tip our hat to Canyon for one thing; he’s good.

In the closing months of 2011 Canyon lost the Scottish title to Andy Anderson and his Money in the Bank cash in as well as lost the SWA tag Team Championship to John Graham and Nathan Black. His bad luck – or just deserts as we like to see it – has put him in the bad books of SWA showrunner PJ Murphy.

Murphy’s orders? Shape up, or ship out. A rule Canyon had to abide by in November when he was forced to wrestle three times, and win at least two of those to avoid receiving his marching orders. Barely able to survive, the egotist boasted about his ring prowess right up until the following nights defeat for the tag straps.

This proved the final straw for Murphy, and as punishment, he is putting Eric Canyon against tag-team partner Adam Shame in a no disqualifications match! Furthermore, as added incentive for the two to lock horns, he has given Adam any match of his choice if he manages to defeat Canyon in his home town of Paisley! The two have done battle many times before, and more often than not Canyon would come out on top. But now that he’s under pressure, can Canyon retain his cool?

As the wrestling year opened in Bridgeton, Canyon invaded Source Wrestling and gained himself a warm up match with newcomer Tommy Daniels, but it seemed the stress of the upcoming no disqualifications match go the better of him, leaving Canyon to bring in some paid help to destroy Daniels on his behalf, leading to a No contest. Canyon then took his team up against Daniels Source allies in an 8-man tag but once again, when all his helping hands had left him, Canyon seemed to be overwhelmed under the pressure.

Which leaves us looking to Rebirth in Paisley Town Hall on February 25th. Canyon has already struggled and crumbled under the pressure of being thrown out of, not only the title race, but the world of wrestling altogether. Despite all his cunning, mind games and devious tactics, the years have shown that being in the ring and having that title are the single most important things in his life and he can’t walk away from it.

So if this is the last match, this is his last chance to be seen on this site being heralded as our Star of the Month. To be honest, we’re not entirely sure what will happen. Shamer knows more about Canyon than anyone else and it’s going down in Shamer’s home town, the one place that energises him to push harder than he ever has before. So we have to wonder. With the odds stacked against him, his struggling to survive so far and the threat of the worl he knows coming to an end for him, will this be the last match?

SWA Rebirth will feature Eric Canyon versus Adam Shame in a No Disqualifications Match in Paisley Town Hall, Saturday February 26th from 6:30pm. Tivckets are on sale now from scottishwrestling.co.uk or from Pro Life fitness Centre, 98 New sneddon Street, Paisley. Click here for tickets and full previews.

Returning to Bridgeton Community Centre to kick off the year, the graduates of the Source Wrestling School were thrown into a showcase event that descended into chaos! With the winner of the Pride Championship rescheduled to March, the young up and comers and latest graduates from the school were handed he spotlight and given their moment to shine and each and every one of them proved they were already on their paths to challenging for the Pride title!

As the stars of the new generation showed their stuff, an SWA star began to show his frustration as he went to extra efforts to make sure tommy Daniels didn’t surpass his momentum. SWA Co-owner Eric Canyon battled hard against Daniels but despite getting a few blows in, Daniels speed and agility got the better of him. But, as he often does, Canyon had a trick up his sleeve and called out Lewis Girvan and Killian to back him up. Before long, Christopher Saynt, Axle Simmons and Bobby Roberts came to even the odds with James St James trying to break up the brawl that ensued!

With tensions high, the challenge was made “You bring your friends, I’ll bring mine and we’ll make this an eight man tag tonight!”

Earlier in the night we’d seen Killian and Girvan gain a pinfall win over 2011 Graduates Bobby Roberts and Axl Simmons in a chaotic tag match that saw Girvan and Killian use everything they had to dominate, while Christopher Saynt managed to get a roll up pin on James St James, defeating him twice in his hometown and gaining the Forsaken member’s respect for his efforts, despite the frustration. With each side eager to resolve the night’s grudges, the teams prepared themselves for their night ahead.

While the two sides regrouped, Black Samurai Junior gained a win over Charles William Yum in a fast paced cruiserweight challenge that ended with a shock knockout victory, whilst Nikki Storm vented her rage and frustration against 2011 graduate Lindsay Turner, refusing to let go of a crippling submission to remind Scottish wrestling who is the alpha female in the country!

After Turner was helped backstage, Team Canyon and Team Daniels entered to close the night with a massive eight-man tag that saw both sides get payback for the nights actions! Daniels’ side quickly ganged up to overpower the Russian Juggernaut, Killian, before Bobby roberts was ejected by disqualification by knocking seven shades out of Girvan for some sweet, if rule breaking, revenge! Girvan was then out due to high crossbody pin from Daniels, then demanded Canyon get into the ring. As Canyon refused to get back in with Daniels, St James reluctantly stepped in, took control and coved Daniels for a pin after hitting the Death Note, only to break the pin himself and help Daniels to his feet before calling Canyon a ‘disrespectful coward’, tagging him in and voluntarily eliminating himself.

As Canyon argued, ringside, Daniels and Saynt had their chance to show Canyon who was really boss and after months of his dodgy tactics and boasting, we finally saw Canyon get what was coming to him! After eliminating Saynt, boasting all the way, Daniels used Canyon’s ego trip to recover from the action, climb to the top and fly through the air, knocking Canyon down straight into a deserving pinfall!

As the night came to a close with Saynt and Daniels jeering Canyon out the ring, the next generation of Source Wrestling showed they had a bright future ahead and that whoever becomes the first Pride Champion in March will have a lot of tough challenges ahead!

A huge thanks to our fans, and the staff, at Bridgeton Community Centre for starting the year on a high!

What a year we have had in SWA. With the Originals vs. The New Line feud dominating a majority of the cards right up until the historic 100th event in St. Bride’s Hall in Motherwell it thus became harder and harder to see who would end the year as Champions. This was exacerbated by “Originals” leader Peter Murphy, who has increasingly distanced himself from the “Originals” group after screwing Scott Renwick out of his Scottish Title at the Gathering in February. Perhaps Murphy is feeling guilty for what he did to Scott Renwick? Or perhaps is there an ulterior motive to his actions?

Because of this, Murphy has had quite the tumultuous relationship with New Line leader Damian O’Connor. O’Connor has been unable to buy into Murphys sudden change of heart and as a result, both men have clashed, ending with Murphy smashing O’Connor over the head with a steel chair. He then promised on his “state of the SWA address” on Christmas Day viewable Here that O’Connor would face the signee of the mysterious “contract” that Murphy continually makes reference to. Could this mean Murphy stepping out of retirement for one last match….or has he something altogether more devious up his sleeve?

Elsewhere, New Line member and Paisley boy Andy Anderson made a hell of a name for himself in August when he cashed in his guaranteed Scottish Heavyweight Title shot against Eric Canyon and won his first ever title. What a title to begin with! Since then he has made successful title defences against former Champion Eric Canyon, Jackie Polo, Falcon and many more. Anderson has used the knowledge gained at not only the SWA’s Source Wrestling School, but also at Lance Storm’s Storm Wrestling Academy, as well as from Rickie Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes and many others at FCW in Tampa, Florida to become one hell of a fighting champion. His maturity shines through with every bout.

His next opponent however, could prove to be an entity Anderson has yet to encounter. Manchester’s Jack Gallagher is a rising star in British wrestling. Having trained under Roy Wood at the legendary Snake Pit in Wigan, as well as with celebrated wrestler Billy Robinson among many others, Gallagher has become an excellent shoot and catch wrestler. His fluid movements have been integrated perfectly into professional wrestling and he is literally chomping at the bit for competition. Gallagher impressed SWA officials to no end in his epic encounter with Damian O’Connor in Motherwell, and they feel that he will provide one hell of a challenge for the young Champion. With Anderson and Gallagher evenly matched in size and weight, could this prove a bridge too far for the reigning Champion?

Peter Murphy’s actions have been making members of both sides of the roster wary, but none more so than former Champion Eric Canyon. Canyon, the greedy upper class zealot that he has become, gave up his legal rights as owner of the company to once again become Scottish Heavyweight Champion… but he dropped the ball when Andy Anderson defeated him in quick order. Because of this, Murphy has made it clear that Canyon needs to up his game, or he’s completely gone from the SWA. This was no clearer than in Govan, whereby Canyon had to win 2 out of 3 matches to keep his contract. Canyon barely managed to succeed, because one of his opponents, Scott Renwick, decided not to compete, in a shocking move. Unfortunately however, when he competed on our 100th show in Motherwell, Canyon lost once more, this time he and his tag team partner, Adam Shame lost their Tag Team Titles to the Weapons of Mass Destruction!

This proved the final straw for Murphy, and as punishment, he is putting Eric Canyon against tag-team partner Adam Shame in a no disqualifications match!!! Furthermore, as added incentive for the two to lock horns, he has given Adam any match of his choice if he manages to defeat Canyon in his home town of Paisley! Could this opportunity sway Shamer’s affiliation, a man once adored by SWA fans? Could this finally mean a return of the “Paisley Wrecking Machine” Adam Shame? We can’t wait to see what happens when we roll into Paisley Town Hall!!!

Also on the cards: Joe Coffey was on one hell of an unbeaten run as SWA Laird of the Ring Champion. So much so that he had defended the title more than almost every previous champion combined! But this came to a crushing halt when he was usurped by the devious “Lowland Superstar” Glen Dunbar in Govan. Dunbar isn’t the biggest of the bunch, nor is he the most talkative, but he has a unique ability of getting inside superstars heads and having them doubt themselves. Although cocky and arrogant on the outside, with a penchant for retro styling, Dunbar is one of the most intelligent wrestlers on the planet and in his words “can find any mans weakness”. Did he find Coffey’s soft spot? Did Coffey finally take an opponent lightly? Or did Glen Dunbar finally live up to his full potential? Was it nothing more than an off day in camp Coffey? We will get an opportunity to find out in Paisley when Joe Coffey gets his rematch. This has all the potential to be a f
antastic encounter!

Scott Renwick made a sickening return to an SWA ring when he destroyed Erin Angel with his Meathook Pedigree in Motherwell. Renwick has been disillusioned since being screwed out of his Scottish Heavyweight Title at the hands of the Originals and then tricked into giving away his rematch. He turned down the opportunity of revenge against Eric Canyon, and has slummed about in the shadows since. However, at Motherwell, he appeared to drag former ally Nikki Storm backstage after her bout with Erin Angel. Could this be some sort of new alliance, and in the battle of Originals vs. New line, where does Scott Renwick sit? He has informed SWA officials that he WILL be in attendance in Paisley.

Another month, another list o things that have caught our attention! So before the wrestling year kicks off in Bridgeton with Source Wrestling on Jan 28th and SWA’s Rebirth in Paisley Town Hall Feb 25th, here’s a list of things that have kept us occupied as we’ve chewed our fingers off in anticipation!

10. Independence
It’s the topic that’s been stealing the headlines lately as debate, discussion and political warfare has been unleashed upon the UK. Despite being the ‘Scottish’ Wrestling Alliance, we’re rather fond of our fellow Brits – especially as some English men helped found this company and our SWS manager is Irish – but with so many arguments for and against, let us know what you think!

9. The Olympics
There’s not much time left, but soon enough London will be swarmed with athletes and fans as the best of the best in every field sqare off against ach other to represent their nation. There isn’t a competition as pure as that, and we’re surprised to be typing that as everyone in SWA Online’s office is biased on that subject, so we’ll be rooting for the Brits to take home a good few medals this year!

8. Mickey Brooks (yes, again!)
We’ve mentioned this before, but it’s close to happening. The Undying Legacy of Mickey Brooks now has cast, scripts and we got a sneak peek at some of the techniques used to film this (as well as some requests for assistance) so we’re absolutely delighted to be closer to a finished product! Click here for information.

7. SWA DVD’s making a comeback.

‘Nuff said

6. The Great Internet Blackout
A few people were confused and annyed when they notioced several high profile websites including Google and Wikipedia offline, but the lagrest online protest was for good reason. In opposition of the SOPA bill proposed in the US, tens of millions of people stood up to oppose a bill that would effect a lot of people in the name of censorship. Missed out on the SOPA strike? You can catch up on what it was all about here.

5. Mikey Whiplash Online

As many of our fans know, one of the finest and most-traveled independent British wrestlers is a regular teacher at our the Source Wrestling School. His teachings have been a wonderful boost to our school and he’s also appeared foe After Hours (and there are ruinous afoot that he’ll be spending more time in front of SWA fans this year). Now he’s kick started his own website to help boost his time as a wrestling coach and full time wrestling schedule. Click here to check him out.

4. Hello, Dexter Morgan

Alright, so we’re a season or two behind (well, 50% of the office is!) but thoe of us who hadn’t had the time before finally got around to a marathon session of Dexter season 4 and all we can say is… wow! John Lithgow has had a wonderful career but he’ll forever be known in our generation as Dick from 3rd Rock. To see him embrace a roll that turned his reputation on his head was absolutely stunning and the effect it has on Michael C Hall’s Dexter, making him more emotional alongside his new family life, was wonderful. Now those of us who are falling behind need to get through season 5 and 6 (guest starring Edward James Olmos) and enjoy the coming season 6!

3. Marty Michaels writes a book.
You can tell by looking at Marty doing his thing that he loves the classics. The man oozes an old school vibe when he’s hosting a show that brings a sense of class and respectability to SWA events. But now, under his pen-name Callum J stewart, he’s put his knowledge tot he test and written a screen play based on Hammer’s long forgotten Godzilla sequel, a tale of what the film may have looked like if the studio hadn’t bailed on the idea. A completely non-profit view from a Hammer Horror fan, the book is self published at Lulu for only £3.37! Check it out!

2. Mass Effect 3
Valentines Day. The day where we are supposed to open our heart to our loved ones and shower them with gifts. That’s the usual plan. Unfortunately for loved ones across the world, Bioware has chosen that day to release the demo for the much anticipated Mass Effect 3. For those unaware, Mass Effect is a sci-fi action adventure game that follows the story of Commander Sheppard and shapes itself on the decisions you make. The third installment will be fully compatible with the Kinect for Xbox and will conclude Sheppard’s story within it’s own universe with the fall of Earth. Sorry all significant others, we’ll be busy on February 14th.

1. The Wrestling Year Begins!
I don;t know about you guys, bt the season break felt like it took an eternity this year. But, the wait is over and SWA branded shows are back i action as ofd this weekend! Source Wrestling kicks things off witha showcase of SWS Graduates on January 28th before finishing the Source title tournament n Clydebank on March 3rd, and on February 235th SWA makes a big comeback in Paisley Town Hall with Andy Anderson defending the Scottish title against BritWres sensation Jack Gallagher, Joe Coffey getting his rematch against Glen Dunbar for the Laird title and much more! Check out the official previews nd keep in mind that you can now buy tickets for Paisley Town Hall right here on SWA Online!
