Sourcelight; The man who went from rookie to Champion in under two years.

A couple of weeks shy of five years ago Source Wrestling (under a different name at the time for those who aren’t familiar with out history) had it’s first origins in Linwood, just down the road from our former training centre. In those five years a lot has changed and the entire brand has re-shaped itself in so many ways thanks to different leaders, creative minds and an overflow of some amazing emerging talent.

But through all the changes and different ways of running things, each person has brought their own stamp to the table when it comes to working behind the scenes of Source. When it comes to what happens in the ring, the talent has made their own fates by grabbing hold of every opportunity thrown at them. As we enter a new year and look back on 2011, we can’t help but look back and feel proud of one of Source’s roster not only taking his opportunity to shine, but smashing through the ‘glass ceiling’ to become the poster boy of Scottish wrestling as a whole.

Getting his foot in the door at what’s now known as the Source Wrestling School, Andy Anderson spent a lot of time working harder than everyone else to get his moment in the ring. When he started training he was still in school, working hard to pass his exams and set himself up with a bright future. At the same time, making sure never to neglect his studies, Anderson was finishing up his days in training and for almost two years he spent every waking moment preparing himself for that chance to get into the ring. Perfecting every move, timing every step, studying every old match he could get his hands on, Andy did everything he could to make sure he was spot-on perfect and wouldn’t miss a beat and when he finally got that chance to step in front of a crowd and wrestle for the first time, he could taste the desire to succeed.

In November 2009 Anderson made his debut in tag action against Jackie Polo and Damian O’Conor in Source Wrestling. Despite a loss he not only managed to wow the fans in Erskine, but the very next night went on to gain his first win by defeating Glen Dunbar in Govan. Only a matter of months later Anderson had begun to make his mark in SWA when he became one of the Source talents to enter the 2010 Battlezone, a match that saw him out-last everyone else in the card and become the last man standing. That was until Eric Canyon made himself a surprise entrant and blind-sighted Anderson in a surprise attack from behind to quickly eliminate the young star.

For Anderson, it felt like going back to square one. He’d came so close to getting a title shot only to be knocked down by a cowardly attack. But that didn’t stop his determination or momentum as he returned to both Source wrestling and SWA fighting strong, growing, advancing, learning and knowing that the next time he had a chance to go for that title, he’d make sure he came out strong.

And his plan worked.

At 2011’s Gathering event in February, Anderson was one of eight men to enter the Money in the Bank scramble match. Whoever gained the last pin won a contract to gain a title shot anywhere, any time. Battling against the likes of Adam Shame, Mike Musso, James Scott and Dave Mastiff amongst others, Anderson clung on to his last shred of hope and survived to the end with the only pin fall made in the match! The rest of his tale is well documented, but to sum it up; Anderson didn’t follow the lead of pervious winners and cash it in straight away. Once again he waited, he trained, he studied, he learned and he carefully waited for his moment.

Then the moment came. Clan Wars 2010. Eric Canyon had the Socttish belt in his hands, he was celebrating his Clan Wars win and the divide between the SWA Originals and the NuGeneration had spilled out. In the middle of the chaos, Anderson cashed in his title shot, rolled Canyon up and walked out as the new NWA Scottish Heavyweight Champion! Not only finally gaining that one prize he craved with every essence of his being, but poetically de-throning Eric Canyon as payback for Battlezone.

In less than two years Anderson went from trainee to champion. An absolutely amazing transition that wouldn’t have happened without the strength, determination and focus he displayed since he took his first steps into the world of wrestling. And as we look back on the short, but storied career of Andy Anderson, those of us involved in Source wrestling are proud to see one of our own on top!
