Battlezone; It all begins again…

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

After an exciting year, one of SWA’s most anticipated and exciting events is almost upon us. It started in 2005 and every year since, it’s been one of our most surprising shows of the calendar. The show that begins the countdown, the road… to the Gathering.

With the Gathering 4 behind us, SWA is now preparing for the Gathering 5. Back to it’s usual time in September, and back to it’s usual home in the Kelvin Hall. But that first stepping stone comes in the huge 30-man event, the Battlezone. The Battlezone is an elimination rumble, starting with two men with another participant entering the ring every two minutes. Eliminations are by pinfall, submission or of course, being ejected from the ring by getting thrown over the top rope.

In 2009, Eric Canyon won the Battlezone by entering himself into the match, blind sighting Andy Anderson and throwing him over the top rope to win, causing a massive upset. Just like previous winners he went on to main event at the Gathering from the Scottish title, just like previous winner and the man he was challenging, Scott Renwick.

Results: The Gathering, Glasgow February 26th 2011

Monday, February 28th, 2011

After months of anticipation, the Gathering exploded into Bellahouston Sports Centre and the fans left with a lot to take in as we saw two titles change hands, two retained and a whole lot of carnage as the SWA roster went all out on the biggest show of the year!

The big surprise being the main event of the night where we saw Eric Canyon finally do battle one on one with Scott Renwick in the unforgiving steel cage. With PJ Murphy standing in to referee the match, it was bound to get intense and as the night progressed we saw Renwick surprise us all with a dive off the cage and see his frustrations rise as he took everything thrown at him and battled hard to survive.

Unfortunately, when Murphy switched sides and aligned himself with Canyon, the numbers game was too much for the champ and he found himself laid out just in time for Canyon to hit a swanton from the top of the cage and put a stock to Renwicks momentum. Even then, the valiant champion wouldn’t quit and it took Canyon to unleash Scotty’s own finisher to be able to make the pinfall and become the new NWA Scottish Heavyweight Champion.

The Final Countdown Begins; More announced for the Gathering

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

During the NWA British Heavyweight tournament, both Moss and Gunn stormed their way through racking up wins at every stage and soon enough they caught each others attention. Moss declared war on Gunn when he decided to challenge him in the quarter finals but despite attempting to destroy each other the two have yet to battle each other in an SWA ring. Moss has demanded that this be rectified and wants to face Gunn on the biggest stage in Scottish wrestling; The Gathering!

These two men couldn’t be any more different. With Moss’ hard hitting, smash mouth style and Gunn’s fast paced suicidal assault, they make for an interesting pair, especially when you consider that neither man wants to give up. But at the Gathering, in light of Eric Canyon’s recent announcement, these two men will finally have a chance to take each other on one on one and find out which man deserves to be the best in Brittain!

At the Gathering 3, Wolfgang mad ethe challenge for the Scottish Heavyweight Championship in the main event of the night in a match that saw Scott Renwick cash in his Money in the Bank title shot and, well… we all know where that led! Over the past year Wolfgang battled to be included in G4 battling against BT Gunn, but it seemed Gunn had the last laugh and managed to win his spot at the Gathering.
