Money Talks?

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

With weeks to go to the Gathering, the staff at SWA Online were left to sit with Eric Canyon as he prepared for his match against Black Samurai in Bridgeton, a match he arranged as a ‘warm up to remind Scott Renwick what will happen on February 26th’ and we got an unpleasant inside into the man’s mind.

But underneath the gloating, the arrogance and his plans to decimate Scott Renwick once again, we learned just how far he’ll go to flex his ego. Including influencing the SWA Committee and the board of directors at the NWA. Two groups he’s been making a lot of phone calls to lately, flshing his cash and abusing his power to make sure the Gathering is all about him.

“I made several complaints to the NWA Board of Directors about the British title tournament, and told the SWA Committee I didn’t want anyone overshadowing my greatest victory, my return to grace.” He told us. “At the Gathering I plan to put that Scottish title where it always belonged, around my waist. I am to the title what Johnny Moss was to the British, it’s focal point, it’s true champion.”

The Road to the Gathering; Back on track!

Thursday, November 25th, 2010

With the unfortunate news earlier in the year that the Gathering had to be postponed due to industrial actions within Culture & Sport Glasgow, fans in attendance at live events in recent months may have noticed that we have been plugging a new date and a new venue as the rocky road to the Gathering gets back on track on February 26th 2010!

Returning to our one-time home for Battlezone, the Gathering will be re-housed for one night only to Bellahouston Sports Centre before returning back to Kelvin Hall later in the year for the Gathering 5. Our Bellahouston venue has hosted one of 2009′s biggest surprises, with our last trip there resulting in BT Gunn winning a triple threat match to win the NWA Scottish Championship. With BT Gunn in the final few for the British Heavyweight tournament, could see see him lift the NWA UK title in the same place he became Scottish Champion?

With the British title to be crowned at the Gathering, we are wondering who will go through and what will happen to those left on the sidelines when G4 arrived in February. So far we have Damien O’Conor, BT Gunn, Johnny Moss, Jester, Adam Shame, Falcon, Paul Tracey and Lionheart lined up to battle off until the finals at G4, but out of all that talent, which two will find themselvs dueling it out for the honour of being British Heavyweight Champion?

Nor the Battle to the strong; the civil war continues…

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

With SWA’s latest trip to Uddingston came a lot of drama. Eric Canyon yet again tried to make the night all about him, but unlike Battlezone, it all fell apart. Particularly with his fight against Scott Renwick.

The two have struggled against each other for months. With Renwick holding the NWA Scottish Heavyweight Championship, the last piece of the puzzle Canyon needs to gain full control of SWA, the champ has had a target on his back, facing nothing but the wrong kind of attention from the Canyon Administration who have thrown various challengers to topple Renwick. With Canyon gaining a sneaky win at Battlezone, and therefore the right to fight for the title at The Gathering, he had a strong safety net but still persisted with Liam Thomson as his latest pick to take the gold. To make matters worse for Renwick, Canyon put himself in the match as the VIP Referee to combat against the SWA Committee’s decision to have the roster at ringside to prevent Canyon aiding Thomson in the match.

But once again Renwick proved himself to be too hard to beat and his sheer determination to keep that belt left Canyon forced to make the three-count against his own man. To make matters worse, after the pinfall PJ Murphy returned from his absense in his hometown to tell Canyon that he’d been inspired and that when the Gathering came, he would be special guest referee when Canyon challenged Renwick for the NWA Scottish Heavyweight Championship.

By the time this happened, Canyon was already in a bad mood. Having challenged the young Lewis Girvin, an Area 52 student who was working as crew on the night, he found himself in a tag match bringing his new bodyguard Mark Anthony to the ring which only resulted in the powerhouse Joe Coffey coming to Lewis’ aid to even the odds. Unsurprisingly, this led to Canyon’s downfall with his team found themselves on the losing end of the battle.

With the roster piled at ringside in the main event for Scott Renwick’s title defence against Liam Thomson in a Lumberjack match, as you would expect, all hell broke loose! With not only the NWA Scottish Heavyweight Championship up for grabs, but Renwick’s pride and Eric Canyon’s struggle for control of the company, the fight was heated inside the ring, but it was equally tense outside.

Still sore from the events earlier in the night, the talent found themselves exploding towards the close of the match Team Canyon tried to interfere, only to find retaliation from Team Renwick. With the roster brawling to the backstage area to settle some scores, Renwick found himself alone in the ring with Thomson and the main events special guest referee… Eric Canyon.

Yet again proving that he wasn’t willing to give up easily, Renwick battled against the odds forcing Canyon to reluctantly make the three count against his own man after a vicious Meat Hook sent Thomsons head into the canvas.
