Over the years the support we have gained from Motherwell fans has been absolutely amazing and has helped us grow and change to the company we are today. For a long time now Motherwell has been our spiritual home, our most passionate and exciting field of battle and it’s only fitting that as our support and fanbase continues to grow, Motherwell is where we take the next step in our evolution. On October 12th 2013 SWA: Zero1 Scotland heads to Motherwell Concert Hall to host Scottish Wrestling’s Biggest Fight, the 30-Man Battlezone!

In November 2010 the stars of SWA entered Motherwell for the first time when all the titles were on the line in St Brides Hall! Over the years, each and every time we’ve returned to Motherwell, we’ve brought with us a bigger and more star studded line up and each and every time Scottish wrestling fans have made the night one to remember by becoming more passionate, more dedicated and turning out in larger numbers than ever before!

In November 2012 the support we received was through the roof when we hosted modern icons, rising stars and British wrestling legends all under one roof as we brought the action packed Battlezone event to Motherwell and in April we were back in Braidhurst High as we kicked off the Junior Heavyweight Championship division in style as saw hometown hero John Graham fall to Scottish Champion Mikey Whiplash in a career v title match.

Over the years the support we have gained from Motherwell fans has been absolutely amazing and has helped us grow and change to the company we are today. For a long time now Motherwell has been our spiritual home, our most passionate and exciting field of battle and it’s only fitting that as our support and fanbase continues to grow, Motherwell is where we take the next step in our evolution

It’s the night where everything is on the line and careers are made as 30-man compete for the chance to be Scotland’s next champion!

On November 7th 2012 the stars of SWA made their first appearance in Motherwell with every title on the line at St Brides Hall. As the champions defended their titles and the fans cheered on their favourites, it was a great night for SWA and since then the support of our Motherwell following has made it one of the strongest area’s in SWA’s calendar.

Opening with a huge title defense by newly crowned Laird of the Ring champion Joe Coffey and ending with Scott Renwick retaining the Scottish heavyweight championship, our first night in Motherwell was a massive hit with fans. But over time our events at St Brides Hall – which believe it or not come to only six in total! – grew larger and larger and at the Battlezone back in November 2012, there was barely room to breathe with the venue packed to the rafters with wrestling fans travelling far and wide to come see the event.

St Brides played host to some amazing highlights over the years including April Davids making her Scottish debut and shocking the crowd by knocking out the home favourite Nikki Storm; Andy Anderson cashing in his Money in the Bank title shot to become Scotlands youngest Heavyweight Champion and much more in between including Motherwell hero John Graham win the SWA Tag Team Championship alongside partner Nathan Black.

Our last trip to St Bride’s saw us packed to the rafters with an amazing line up at Battlezone 2012 as Johnny Kidd challenged Mikey Whiplash for the Scottish title in a British wrestling masterclass, while Jack Gallagher gained a whole new following as he defeated Lewis Girvan among other tremendous matches including Joe Coffey returning to the place of his first title defense after three years as champion in a massive four way match against BT Gunn, Dickie Divers and Liam Thomson.

Battlezone 2012 is now available to buy on DVD from our online store!

The night not only showcased the very best in Scotland today, but showed that after six shows the Motherwell crowd had out-grown our home in the town and we needed more room to fit everyone in!

Growing beyond the hall, Motherwell needed more space and so we moved to Braidhurst High to witness Battlezone winner John Graham challenge Mikey Whiplash in a street fight for the Scottish title (pictured) but once again – with much more room than St Brides – the house was packed as fans flocked to our seventh Motherwell event, their passion for the shows helping to beef out the crowd even more.

When SWA first launched back in 2004 the foundations were laid in Bellshill. But as SWA expanded across the West of Scotland, going through years of development and change to get to where it is now, it drifted from it’s spiritual home. But over the past few years we’ve seen another home develop as Motherwell has grown beyond our expectations.

With Motherwell being the base of our evolution in the past few years and the turning point for our new direction, you can bet that whatever happens next with SWA’s growth happens right in the heart of Motherwell!

After losing the Undisputed tag team titles to the Masked Avengers in Ardrossan, BMW were irate! On a mission to reclaim the dual titles, they made the challenge to the Avengers and cashed in their contracted rematch for the belts – even going to far as to raise the stakes by forcing the masked duo to compete in a brutal ladder match.

But all didn’t go to plan. As the Avenger Tornado and BMW’s Scott Renwick both climbed the ladder, both fighting it out as they reached for the titles, something no one expected happened; both men won! As Renwick crashed down holding a W3L Tag Championship and Tornado grabbing an SWA tag belt, our trusty head official Steve ‘The Wizard’ Thomson made a controversial decision – he took a step back, looked at the situation clearly and recognized both teams victories.

With Tornado retaining the SWA Tag Team Championship on behalf of the Masked Avengers, and Renwick capturing the W3L tag team championship, the joint tag team division was brought to an end. But it had one hell of a run!

In November 2011 Nathan Black and John ‘The bomb’ Graham gained a huge victory as they both captured their first championship victory after defeating Adam Shame and Eric Canyon for Scotland’s tag team championship. They’re run as champions saw them defeating the very best in the division which led to them being a huge highlights on the joint SWA-W3L event ‘Clash of the Titans’ as they faced W3L’s tag team champions in May 2012. And history repeated itself – with Shame and Canyon capturing the W3L titles, the Weapons of Mass Destruction walked into the unification match against two men they knew well and at the end of the night, left as both SWA and W3L Tag Team Champions!

A full year after their first victory, Graham and Black were standing strong at the top of Scottish tag team wrestling until BMW cheated a victory with the aid of Nikki Storm – defeating the goliaths and entering into their fourth reign as SWA tag team champions and only being the second team to hold the Undisputed title. But their fourth reign didn’t last long as soon enough the Masked Avengers were on their backs!

The Masked Avengers – Tornado and Solar – made their tag team debut against BMW in September 2012 and caused a massive upset by defeating the long standing team. When the Avengers gained the right to fight for the tag titles this past January thanks to Solar gaining a pin over BMW’s Damian O’Conor, they made the challenge in Tornado’s home town, scoring another big victory and proving to everyone that the high flying cruiser weights were truly ones to watch!

Despite their reign as W3L’s tag champions coming to an end as the titles from both promotions were ripped apart, Solar and Tornado stand strong as the undefeated SWA Tag Team Champions and thanks to their hard work and dedication both in the ring at live events, and behind closed doors with hard training at the Source Wrestling School, we can expect nothing less than an exciting – and very, very long! – reign from the duo.

While the Undisputed Tag Team Championship lasted only eleven months, the relationship with W3L is still strong and there are several Souce Wrestling School graduates regularly appearing for W3L, so perhaps we will see the titles come together once again. But for now, only six men held the honour of being the Undisputed Tag Team Champions, and as BMW relight their devastating reign in the World Wide Wrestling League, here in SWA the tag division is safe from the brutes as we continue to cheer on the Masked Avengers standing strong in our hall of champions!

At the request of SWA owner DB Mackle, InsideSWA sat down for a chat with the man behind SWA and recently retired John the Bomb Graham. We weren’t sure what to expect when we walked in, but left with some exciting news that will shake the foundations of SWA and the world of Scottish wrestling for years to come!

Our opening line to both men was simply, ‘Gentlemen, we believe you have some big news?’. And this is what they had to say:

DB Mackle:

“Indeed we do! Over the last 9 years, SWA has had its ups and downs. Original success under founder Peter Murphy got SWA to massive levels, where he sold out the 2000 seated Kelvin Hall with only UK talent in 2007. A phenomenal achievement. Later, Trevor Mills assisted Murphy,
helping fill Bellahouston Sports Centre and various other large venues. When Peter stepped down in 2009 SWA was in a stasis so to speak.

It was ran on a trial basis via committee and I have been quite open about SWA not necessarily driving on all cylinders during that time. However, in the last year we have found our feet and began to carve out our identity. I took full control of SWA last Summer, and tried to implement my vision of professional wrestling. Focusing heavily on wrestlers I trust and the phenomenal talent myself and the team have developed at the Source Wrestling School, we have been able to show the fans of Scotland a focus on technical wrestling, catch wrestling and athleticism. We want to excite our fans and educate them on our wonderful British Wrestling heritage.

Over this time I’ve had some fantastic help, James Tyler going above and beyond with media and much more, Mikey Whiplash helping raise the standard at the school and various other individuals helping with the shows, but few moreso than John The Bomb Graham.

John has been a cracking talent for SWA and an amazing assistant in helping sell out St. Brides Hall and Braidhurst High. Sadly, John recently took a step back from actively competing to focus on his various businesses and his family.

His loss inside the ring however, will be SWAs gain outside the ring. Over the past weeks we have negotiated terms and I am delighted to announce that from today he’ll be my business partner.

Johns experience in business is evident, with Strongman Removals, OCD and various others. I am very excited to have him on board.”

John had this to say:

John Graham:

“SWA has improved leaps and bounds over the past year alone and with a significant investment in time and resources, it has potential to grow even further. We will strive to put on the best shows and provide the best in family entertainment. We will also continue to develop the Source brand, as this is an essential tool for the learning and development of the young and up and coming talent from our Wrestling School to showcase their abilities

I am delighted to be on board here, and we have big things planned for the future!”

DB Mackle:

“With our current affiliation to Pro Wrestling ZERO1 Japan, we have been able to give our Source Wrestling School talent genuine opportunities to be professional wrestlers and learn different styles of wrestling.

We are currently in talks with another massive company to try and replicate this in a different country and we have various other goals we will strive to complete. John’s involvement will give me even more time to focus on the future of the Source Wrestling School. With myself and Mikey Whiplash heading up the school, and John driving our shows forward, we’ll create a dynasty here in Scotland for Professional Wrestling.”

Just weeks after saying goodbye to John ‘The Bomb’ Graham in the ring, we’d like to be the first to say we are delighted to be seeing him as a strong force in the management of SWA and can’t wait to see where this new team takes the company next!

But every now and then, things get extreme so this month we’ve decided to take a peek at our craziest match types to date!

In the competitive and boundary pushing world of pro wrestling, the competition can sometimes get heated and when it does it can take more than a one on one to settle the score. Especially when things get personal! With out recent double header in Paisley and Motherwell showcasing two unique and risky match types, we decided the time was right to take a look back at some of our favourites from the death defying to the mentally challenging to the most chaotic!

There’s been strap matches, chain matches, TLC’s and everything in between. We’ve taken a look back at the good, the bad and he ugly to put the spotlight on some of the highlights (and one or two lowlights!) to dig out some of the matches that had us on the edge of seats and cheering on for some of the finest talent in the country.

As always we’ve been following the stars of SWA as they take to the road and break out across Scotland, the UK and the world! With the SWA stars busier than ever, it’s been hard to keep track of it all but we’ve collected our April (and early May!) highlights for your reading pleasure!

Earlier this year the Source Wrestling School at CityGym played host to an invite-only event that saw Mark Coffey and Jack Gallagher duel in the main event of the evening as a send off for the duo before they headed East to Japan All these months later and the two men are making a huge impression over at Zero1 Japan as they train and compete in one of the world’s most demanding wrestling communities.

As Mark follows in his brother Joe’s footsteps and continues to solidify Scotland as a hub of true wrestling talent – including wrestling in Tokyo’s historic Korakuen Hall – we’ve been told by both wrestlers and Japanese wrestling fans that all eyes are on the young Scotsmen as he represents SWA and his country overseas.

In the same vein Gallagher, who is going under the name Jack Anthony while touring Japan, has gained the same love from Japanese fans as he had when he exploded into SWA last year.

As they continue to tour after gaining big wins at Zero1′s huge Big Bang event, we can’t wait to see them return stronger than ever and with learning a whole new style in Japan and undergoing the very demanding Zero1 schedules, we can’t wait to see how much of a threat both men are as they return to Scotland looking for gold.

They’re not the only one’s touring the Eastern world either! She calls herself the best in the world and has been an icon of womens wrestling in the UK for several years and now Pro Wrestling Eve Champion Nikki Storm is taking her title to JWP, defending the Eve Championship and raising the bar for women in British wrestling as another huge breakout success story!

Storm is only the second Scottish woman to wrestle in Japan and the first Brit to defend the Eve Championship while touring there and for someone as hard working and as dedicated as this young star, it’s no surprise she’s a massive hit there. After defeating Hanako to retain the Eve Championship last night, Nikki and partner Yonepan defeated Kazuki and Bolshoi – ending her tour on a massive high note before she returns to Scottish soil.

Back in Scotland things have been just as wild for the stars of Scottish wrestling over the past month.

Viper kicked off the month with two nights of action as she battled April Davids at Futureshock before heading to the hardcore promotion HXC the following night to take on Holly Rocamora.

Back in Glasgow ICW was in full swing as Source graduates Robbie Solar and Grado joined Noam Dar in a four-way challenge for the Zero-G Championship, but the current title holder (and former SWA Scottish Champion) Wolfgang retained! In another four way dance Bete Noire made a challenge in the womens tournament but fell just short of the win while Scottish Champion Mikey Whiplash showed the ICW crowd what made British wrestling the best in the world when he tackled Robbie Dynamite.

The following Friday 12th, former SWA Tag Team Champion Nathan Black put his SPWO UK Championship on the line against El Technico, retaining the title against the masked challenger with the help of Sara.

On Saturday 27th SWE hosted their European Championship tournament and while Mikey Whiplash was furiously unsuccessful in the first round, BMW’s Damian O’Conor defeated Johnny Lions to take the spot for the next round of the tournament! There was more good news for the SWA Stars as Fiona Fraser was in action picking up a big win against Samii Jayne.

Meanwhile Kirsty Love was down south wrestling for Rad:Pro on the same night in four way action – not against another three women, but three men taking on Fire Ant, Rubix and Johnny Storm.

There was more womens wreslting action on the 27th as Pro Wrestling Eve hosted their last night at the Delphi Centre which saw Bete Noire in singles action against Rhia O’Reilly and later a fatal four way match with Sara, Leah Owens and Ayesha Ray – while She-X tag partner Viper took on Ayesha then later on gained apinfall win versus Shanna.

And making a massive debut for another promotion with the initial SWA – and fellow Zero1 affiliate – Joe Coffey headed to Spain for Super Wrestling Association making his entrance with style as he gained a big win over regular favorite Angelnaught!

Joe Coffey was in action at Wrestlezone to kick off May and this past Saturday May 4th, defeated Damian while the loud mouthed Jackie Polo found himself on the losing end of Blue Thunder. Former SWA Tag Team and T-Division champion Dickie Divers was also in action as he took centre stage in the main event of the night in a challenge for Wrestlezone’s Undisputed Championship.

Here in Glasgow on the same night the Garage hosted the first of two nights of ICW with their Fierce Females brand opening with Viper smashing through the last leg of the Scottish Womens Championship tournament, taking on the amazon Ayesha Ray in the opener before going to to tow with Kay Lee Ray in the final. Despite coming just short of becoming the first Scottish Womens champ, Viper blew everyone away with her aggression and we can be sure gold is in her future soon!

Viper’s She-X tag partner Bete Noire also made a huge impact as she had a career making hardcore bout against the US star Crazy Mary Dobson in a match that had to be seen to be believed! The night also featured Fiona Fraser with bold words for April Davids, and Kirsty Love in action in a six-man tag.

The Garage hosted ICW’s ‘Resevoir Dogs’ the following night seeing Solar make an impressive singles debut with the over-18′s company as he challenged Noam Dar; Jackie Polo agreed to battle former SWA champ Johnny Moss for the right to face ICW owner Mark Dallas in the ring; former Scottish champ Wolfgang retained his Zero-G title in a triple threat involving current Laird champion Joe Coffey and in a highly anticipated main event of the night, Mikey Whiplash defeated Red Lightning to become the new ICW Champion!

Whiplash’s achievement makes him the first man to hold the SWA and ICW titles simultaneously, and in a few weeks he’s set to challenge Mike Musso for the W3L Championship in Fife. Is Whiplash on his way to becoming an undisputed champion of Scotland?

It’s been a very busy month, and we know we’ve missed something out, but considering how busy the SWA stars have been this month, could you blame us? Scotland is a hub of talent right now and we couldn’t be happier to see the SWA stars go out and spread their wings.

After breaking out across the UK, Welsh wrestling star Wild Boar made his Scottish debut against Laird of the Ring Champion Joe Coffey. Less than a year later Boar entered our two-day Junior Heavyweight tournament and made history as he became a Scottish national champion.

At our recent double header event featuring a phenomenal two-day tournament showcasing some of the best junior heavyweights across the UK, we saw some of the countries finest pro wrestling action as eight men fought it out over three rounds until just one man was left standing as we watched Welsh sensation Wild Boar storm through the Junior Heavyweight tournament.

Boar’s path was not an easy one, besting Christopher Saynt on the first night before heading to Paisley on night to where he picked up a win over Mark Andrews in the semi-finals before battling Lewis Girvan – who defeated Jimmy Meadows to secure the main event spot.

Touted for big things by fans and critics nationwide, Wild Boar is one of the most unique junior heavyweights wrestling in the UK today, mixing the speed and agility of his weight class with a lot of strength and power – often more power than men twice his size! A fact we saw clearly when he took on the powerhouse Joe Coffey in his Scottish debut back in July.

Having made quite the name for himself across the UK, Boars appearances since his debut have been met with the same success from his first match, to appearing for the first Zero1 Scotland show last year and competing in the 30-Man Battlezone.

With Paisley fans on their feet to celebrate with Boar as he became Scotland’s first Junior Heavyweight Champion, the man himself shook hands with his finalist opponent; Girvan had given him the fight of his life – to the point Boar had to hit three consecutive pile drivers to keep the young SWA star down! With!

After giving each other a hammering, Boar had to force Girvan down to gain the winning pin fall. When the dust settled, Boar made a decision, asking Girvan to face him once again, that with the intensity and skill Girvn brougtht to the table, there was no one better to face in his first title defense.

As we head towards the next SWA: Zero1 Scotland event, Wild Boar will be given a heroes welcome as we present him with the all-new Scottish Junior Heavyweight Championship in a manner fitting of a national champion and celebrate his huge title win in style and when we see his first title defense, it’ll be Girvan versus Boar once again as the Welsh star puts the title on the line against Scotlands prodigy!

Keep your eyes on ScottishWrestling.co.uk as we bring updates on our upcoming events very soon!

After a stunning double header to crown the first Scottish Junior Heavyweight Champion, the Source Wrestling School graduates finished off the weekend with another Friends and Family event hosted at our training facility in CityGym Glasgow!

With F&F shows being a unique, intimate environment where almost anything goes, the atmosphere was light as wrestling fans in attendance were treated to some of the finest graduates and veterans from SWA’s Source facility.

High flying masked Newcomer Celtic Arrow started the show on a high note with huge victory over former Scottish Heavyweight and current W3L Tag Team Champion Scott Renwick in a phenomenal match ending with Arrow hitting an impressive shooting star press for the winning pinfall.

The odd couple dup of Adam Carerel and David Campbell Thomson – Muay Tache – joined with Axxle Simmons in six man tag to gian a defeat over Jam O’Malley, Lewis Girvan and Vyper. The match came to a close as O’Malley picked DCT up for a slam, only to recieve a thunderous roundhouse kick from Carrel allowing the fan favourites to gain the winning pin!

NExt up, SWA Tag Champion Solar battled against Andy Anderson, but despite Solar gaining the winning pin, Anderson had the last laugh as for he third night in a row, he dished out a brutal assault on his opponent after the match!

After a victory the night before in Paisley Student Union, the Forgotten – Alex Cavanagh & Glen Dunbar – found themselves with another victory under their belts as the cunning duo cheated their way to victory over the newpairing of Private Bobby Roberts and HMS – The Allied Forces!

And in a stunning main event of the evening, Christopher Saynt had the chance to shine! After gaining a lot of momentum in the past twelve months, Saynt was able to test himself against one of our most successful graduates – Laird of the Ring Champion Joe Coffey! Despite Saynt proving a serious challenge to Coffey’s throne, the Laird champ managed to pull off a massive victory with another huge lariat for the pinfall before thanking Saynt for the challenge and commended him on his progression through the past year.

We’d like to thank everyone who attended the intimate event in CityGym and once again supporting the showcase of our graduates of past, present and future!

After a huge night in Motherwell, the stars of SWA: Zero1 Scotland ventured to Paisley Student Union as we crowned Scotlands first ever Junior Heavyweight champion!

The night kicked off straight away with tournament action as Wild Boar and Mark Andrews squared off against each other in the first semi-final of the night. As the two Welsh wrestling stars did everything they could to get the win, it looked to be all over as Andrews went for the same shooting star press he hit the previous night to advance to the semi’s, but the unpredictable Boar caught Andrews mid-air and finished him with his inverted piledriver to secure his place in the finals!

Lewis Girvan and Jimmy Meadows was next up for the semi-finals. Both men tested each other in a very technical bout, but the fans were elated as Glasgow’s Girvan got the better of Meadows, securing his place in the finals against Wild Boar!

Despite not making it through to the semi-finals the previous night, quarter finalists Damian Dunne and Andy Anderson battled aganst each other in singles action. But what started as a reasonably friendly competition turned into another display of Andersons unrelenting bitterness as he snapped mid match and went mental on Dunne. With the action fast descending into chaos, the referee was forced to stop the match as Anderson was hauled away kicking and screaming by security.

The chaos didn’t end there! Next up the Masked Avengers and BMW made their way to the ring as the Avengers put their newly won tag titles on th eline against the former title holders. Both teams took full advantage of the ladder match stipulation, and soon enough all hell broke loose. But the match had an indecisive and devastating win – both teams walked away with tag team gold!

The masked Avengers were able to secure the SWA Tag Team Championship, but at the same time Scott Renwick pulled down the W3L tag title. With both teams taking a title at the same time, the referee was forced to make the call; The Avengers had retained the SWA tag team championship, but BMW had won the W3L tag tam belts; crowning both teams as winners, but at the sake of the unified titles.

Laird of the Ring Champion Joe Coffey kept the title action rolling as he put his coveted title on the line against UK Sensation and TNA X-Division challenger Mark Haskins. In a match Paisley fans will remember for a long time to come, these two athletes showed exactly why they’re in the international spotlight, but despite world-class offense, Haskins was unlucky in his bid to win the title and after a crushing lariat, Joe remained undefeated!

With fans rejoicing over yet another win by Coffey, the mood was about to change as Glen Dunbar and Alex Cavanagh – The Forgotten challengers of SWA – entered six man tag action alongside former Scottish Champion Eric Canyon to tackle rising stars David Campbell Thomson, Adam Carrel and the Celtic Arrow. Despite continuing to impress, DCT, Arrow and Carrel found themselves stunned with a loss after Jam O’Malley entered to interfere behind the referee’s back, aligning himself with the Forgotten!

Finishing on a high, Wild Boar and Lewis Girvan entered as the main event of the night hosted a massive final to crown the first Scottish Junior Heavyweight Champion. Girvan and Boar went all out to prove they deserved to be in the spotlight and fought intensely, each man refusing to give up with the title in sight. It took three (yes, THREE!) of Boar’s sickening piledrivers to keep Lewis down, but Girvan’s body finally relented and Boar’s hand was raised after the pinfall to declare him the first Scottish Junior Heavyweight Champion!

Once the dust had settled, with fans celebrating with Boar, the new champion grabbed the mic and delcared to all that after the heart, determination and resilience shown by Girvan, it was only right that the man who gave him the fight of his life would be his first challenger!
