About SWA

About SWA

The Scottish Wrestling Alliance was formed in 2004, paving the way for Professional Wrestling in Scotland.  An affiliate of the world-renowned National Wrestling Alliance(NWA), the SWA has for over 6 years, brought its own mix of established Scottish talent, worldwide stars, and innovative wrestling to the fans of Scotland.

SWA’s debut show ‘Rebirth’ crowned the first ever NWA Scottish Heavyweight Champion in Bellshill, South Lanarkshire in 2004. In the years that have passed, SWA has went from strength to strength and has continued to promote wrestling events across the west of Scotland utilizing the best in British wrestling talent. SWA’s calendar year culminates in “The Gathering”, an event held within Kelvin Hall in front of up to 2000 fans. The first “Gathering” marked the first ever Scottish Professional Wrestling Supershow, putting the spotlight on Scottish wrestling talent on a national stage.

The SWA has prided itself on being not only the best wrestling company Scotland has to offer, but also the most innovative. SWA was the first and only Scottish company to use exciting “gimmick” matches, including cage matches, casket matches, stretcher matches, and many more. SWA was also the first Scottish company to regularly use the likes of “Prince” Fergal Devitt, Doug Williams, Johnny Moss, Martin Stone, Dave Mastiff and Paul Tracey among the other top wrestlers that Europe has to offer.

On top of that, SWA also offers the most amount of live events in Scotland. With over 30 events a year spread over all three SWA brands, we stand up against any of our rivals.

Area 52
Based in Renfrewshire, SWA’s “Area 52″ wrestling school teaches the art of pro-wrestling. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on request, Area 52 is one of the longest running and most successful training schools in the UK. Several graduates of Area 52 have went on to win various championships including recognized British and Scottish titles, worked across the UK and internationally and much much more. Also, in 2010, WWE Vice President of Talent Relations, John Laurinitis, visited the Area 52 training facility and invited three Area 52 graduates to London to train with the WWE Raw and Smackdown rosters.

Area 52 has also been host to International and European Superstars who have trained the graduates. New Japan Pro Wrestling’s “Prince” Fergal Devitt, TNA’s Doug Williams and former UFC, WWE and NWA Champion Dan “The Beast” Severn have all taken the graduates through their paces. UK & European stars, Johnny Moss, Paul Tracey & Majik  have also taken multiple sessions in recent years.

“Prince” Fergal Devitt has recently been installed as a regular guest trainer, taking 2 day camps bi-monthly. Devitt is without a doubt one of the top wrestler’s in the world, and SWA are delighted to have him available to our trainees.

SWA:SOURCE

SWA:SOURCE is a program that works in conjunction with the Area 52 facility to showcase some of the best talents graduating from the school. The SWA:SOURCE shows give these talented graduates a launching pad to kick start their careers and provide the perfect transition between Area 52 training and SWA’s primary events.

SWA:SOURCE was created in 2007, putting on semi regular shows with the early Area 52 graduates mixing it up alongside more established opponents. In 2009 SWA:SOURCE went to a bi-weekly model, putting on shows in front of up to 350 people all over the west of Scotland using talent DIRECTLY from its own training centre, “Area 52″. With SOURCE’s touring schedule on the increase, future graduates are guaranteed to have a strong development brand in which to build their skills and take on the cream of the SWA.

After Hours
In 2007, SWA introduced its third brand. An adults-only wrestling event, After Hours promotes a more extreme wrestling environment in the city centre of Glasgow. Not only does it feature the best talent Scotland and the UK has to offer, but it features blood, sweat and beers! Expect to see hard hitting and fast paced matches, with more than the occassional “Hardcore” gimmick match!
