What Can I Expect Of Training? / What does a session involve?
At Area 52, we emphasise the importance of physical fitness regardless of body size, as well as stressing the often-overlooked fundamentals and basics of wrestling.

Each session will start with a thorough warm up to loosen the body up and also to improve the fitness of the trainees. The warm up can encorporate any or all of the following: running, press ups, gymanstics/pilates exercises, body weight resistance exercises, abdominal workout, squats, stretching and flexibility exercises. The warmup is challenging, but necessary both for safety and physical development.

For new trainees, they will then be shown the basic break falls (bumps) of wrestling to ensure that they will be able to control their landings in a safe manner and in a way that minimises the risk of injury or pain. Two crash mats are provided to help new learners perfect their bumping techniques, and generally learning to bump will take up most of a first timer's session.

After bumps, a new trainee can expect to learn how to "tie up" properly, and be taught basic chain wrestling from a collar and elbow tie up, such as wristlocks, hammerlocks and headlocks. They will also be shown some basic reversals and may be asked to participate in a short 2 or 3 minute "chain match" incorporating what they've been taught so as to consolidate and re-inforce their learning.

Area 52 also offers a free weights area, and so in an effort to improve the conditioning and physiques of it's trainees, there will often be some weight training carried out for a period of the session. For those unfamiliar with weights don't worry, the trainers on hand are experienced gym goers and will stress the emphasis of technique and form over lifting the heaviest weight possible.

Throughout the session there will be breaks where you can rehydrate yourself or grab a bite to eat, and these breaks are a great chance to get to know your fellow trainees, have a chat and chill out.

Of course, sessions are not planned out to a "T", and there is a great deal of room for improvisation and spur of the moment exercises or drills. Some of the funniest and most worthwhile moments have come about due to this spontaneity and as such we can't promise that what is listed here is exactly what will happen during a session, but overall it is a fairly accurate guide.

Can I book one-on-one private sessions? How much do they cost?
Our trainers do occasionaly accept private bookings on very special occasions. Email for more info.

What should I wear to train? Do I need special gear?
Anything you can move comfortably in will suit, shorts/jogging bottoms t-shirt/polo shirt. Flat soled shoes preferable otherwise clean shoes. If you have any knee and elbow pads are almost a must, but no need/point to shell out money unless you know it’s for you, which can take a few weeks, if this is the case it’d be an idea to buy into armature boots also which have come into fashion for girls with a strange fashion sense.

Where can I buy padding or boots?
Our trainers can provide a full list, thoug mlsports.co.uk aare often preferred by trainees.

Can I come watch a session before training?
Yes you can. If you're unsure about training or would like to speak to a tranier, feel free to come along to check out our facilities and calm any fears you might have.

If you're a concerned parent, you can also come talk to our trainers and watch a session to see what we do.

How old do I have to be to train?
for insurance reasons we can't allow anyone under 14 to train at SWA. Every trainee under 16 must provide written parental consent.

How long will it take to learn?
There is no deadline on learning. Different people learn at different paces.

The most important thing about Area 52 is that while we motivate you, we will never rush you through anything we teach you. A high standard of learning is important in such a physical industry and for quality and safety we will take your training one step at a time.

Will training make me a pro wrestler?
A big misconception in training is that by joining our program you're instantly a pro. SWA's aim is to teach it's students the highest standard of wrestling in all it's varying styles so that they can turn pro in the future.

The training program is a commitment, if you want to turn pro you have to put in the time and effort until you're of a booking standard. There's no deadline to turning pro, no time limit.

What is the training forum and how do I access it?
The training forum is a private forum to discuss training related matters. It's also a good place to get news and updates on training that can't be posted publicly as well as a sound advice board.

If you wish to access it, send a message to admin on the fan forums. You will have to register with the forum to do so. In your message give your name, training days and trainer.

Once your identity is confirmed you will be able to access the Area 52 specific information.

THE NXT GENERATION

In 2007 SWA launched a new project to showcase it's original talents developed within the Area 52 training facility.

In addiction to regular SWA Live! shows, the NXT roster was designed to give the spotlight exclusivly to Area 52 talent in order for them to advance their skills and dazzle audiences with their talent without any 'bells of whistles'.

NXT is considered one of the first rungs on the ladder to sucsess and has already proven to be a hit with the fans.

You never know... once you're ready you may be called upto the NXT roster to prove you have what it takes to entertain the fans. One of the perks of trianing with SWA is hat this program is there to give trainee's a chance to shine.
